Fortunately, society holds technology in a high regard because of modern advances and is accesible to most on a daily basis. Personally, I use the internet, television, microwave, and a hair dryer everyday. I have been surrounded by technology and computers since I can remember and I now consider myself highly trained yet spoiled by technology. Even computers and computer courses have begun to filter through schools, taken away job opportunities, and overwhelmed our society. I took a computer class in eighth grade, learning the basics and mastering the concept of keyboarding. Even being able to slip in a video cassette of The Lion King as a little girl of seven, proves that I have been surrounded by technology throughout my growing years. For my graduation I was given a digital camera and was able to master the buttons and gadgets before the night ended. Grandparents and parents still struggle with the idea of a computer and especially the internet, however, our genertion has considered such a necessity. Therefore, I consider my experience with technology to be proficient.
During the course of this class, I hope to better my computer skills and learn new ways of applying computer programs to my daily life. For example, in microsoft word alone, there are many options and tabs that I never use, nor know what their use is intended for. Furthermore, I hope this class helps me with my future career in teaching and enables me to be more technology friendly in my classroom for students who will have more experience in the world of technology.
Today, I have noticed that my learning style is very much based on the idea of "monkey see, monkey do". I can better understand and comprehend material and tasks if I see it done rather than have it lectured to me or have to figure it out through a manual or book. With my instructor showing the class through projection how to use 'SAM', I can guarantee that I will always remember to how to set up the program.
